Most painting delays and extra costs in Nigeria happen because the house wasn’t properly prepared before the painters arrived. A little preparation can save you thousands of naira and give much better final results in 2026.
Complete Preparation Checklist Before Painters Arrive
- Clear the Rooms Move all furniture to the centre or out of the room. Small items should be removed completely.
- Protect Everything Use proper dust sheets (not thin nylon). Cover floors, electrical fittings, and fixed items well.
- Clean the Walls Remove cobwebs, dust, and grease. Wash greasy kitchen walls with sugar soap.
- Fix Minor Defects Fill cracks and holes. Sand rough areas. Let filler dry completely.
- Remove Wall Fixtures Take down curtains, pictures, shelves, and light fittings (or cover them securely).
- Improve Ventilation Ensure fans and windows can be opened for faster drying.
- Plan Access Make sure painters have water, electricity, and safe access to all areas.
