The ceiling is often painted last and given least thought, yet it strongly influences how light and spacious a room feels. In 2026, more attention is being paid to ceiling colour and finish as a simple way to improve the overall atmosphere of a space.
How Ceiling Colour Influences a Room
- Light Reflection
Lighter ceilings bounce more light back into the room. - Perceived Height
A clean light ceiling can make a room feel taller and more open. - Cohesion
Matching or carefully coordinating the ceiling with walls creates a calmer, more finished look.
Practical Recommendations
- Soft warm white or light neutral for most ceilings
- Slightly lighter than the walls for a lifted effect
- Smooth, even application for the best light performance
