A textured finish is applied thicker than paint and worked with a roller, trowel or brush to leave a visible pattern on the wall. It is chosen either because the wall needs hiding or because the room needs a surface that is more than a colour.
What texture is good at
- Hiding patched blockwork and uneven plaster
- Bridging hairline cracks that would reappear through a thin paint film
- Giving an exterior wall a thicker, more weather-resistant layer
- Creating a feature wall without wallpaper or panelling
What it is not good at
Texture does not fix a structural crack, and it does not stop water coming through a wall. If damp is the reason for the call, the source gets fixed first. Texture also shows poor workmanship: an uneven trowel line is permanent, and sanding it back is difficult once it has cured.
The Prestige products
Prestige Texalux is the decorative texture for feature walls and interiors. Prestige Textured Finish is the heavier coating for exterior walls. Both are supplied from our factory at Atan, Ogun State.
Before you commit a whole wall
Ask for a sample board, and if possible have a small panel done on the actual wall. Texture reads very differently at 2 metres than it does at 20, and the pattern is not something you can paint over cheaply.
